the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan 2026/2027

the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan 2026/2027, in collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the ASEAN University Network (AUN). The program supports pre- and post-doctoral researchers from ASEAN in all academic fields to conduct short- to medium-term research in Japan under the guidance of a host researcher. The fellowship offers generous financial support and aims to strengthen academic cooperation between ASEAN and Japan.

Fellowship Overview:

  • Duration: 1 Apr 2026 – 31 Mar 2027 (1–12 months)

  • Support Includes:
    ▪ Round-trip airfare
    ▪ Monthly allowance: 362,000 JPY (Ph.D.) / 200,000 JPY (pre-Ph.D.)
    ▪ Settling-in allowance: 200,000 JPY (for stays of 3+ months)

Who Can Apply:

  • ASEAN nationals with a Ph.D. (obtained within 6 years, outside Japan)

  • Doctoral students expecting to graduate within 2 years

  • Non-ASEAN nationals engaged in research in ASEAN for 3+ years

Required Documents:

  1. Completed application form

  2. Acceptance letter from Japanese host researcher

  3. Ph.D. diploma or expected completion certificate

  4. Recommendation letter from doctoral advisor or equivalent

(All documents must be in English or accompanied by English translation.)

Important Dates:

  • Application Deadline: 15 August 2025

  • Result Announcement: February 2026
